[Precipice Magazine History]
The following history was written upon the re-launch of Precipice Magazine in August of 2005...
To many of you Precipice Magazine may be new- but the magazine does in fact have a history that goes back several years. In that sense this particular version of the magazine can be considered a "re-launch". The original version of Precipice entered cyberspace in October of 2001- almost 4 years ago. The magazine was published monthly (as it will be in its current incarnation) and dealt with topics of Christian faith and post-modern culture; with a specific vision to see the Church (in all its fragmented forms around the World) move towards a convergence. In that sense Precipice Magazine was at heart- all about ecumenicalism.
The original players- so to speak (i.e. the regular contributors to the magazine), were Darren King, Willy Phillips, and Phil Jordahl. In addition, a host of other people made periodic contributions as well. It seemed that there were many of us at the time interested in the same issues. That was the case even though we were coming from relatively diverse Christian backgounds- be that Evangelical, Eastern Orthodox, Mainstream Protestant, or Catholic traditions. Again, it was all about ecumenicalism- in the best sense of the word.
It seems that Precipice this time around will be addressing not only "convergence" but also "emergence". Apparently the growing Christian "conversation", known as the Emergent movement, makes the original Precipice mandate all the more relevant. And that's why those of us involved are picking it back up; because we want to make a helpful and faithful contribution to the conversation. Above all else though, Precipice Magazine is being re-launched because those of us involved feel that this idea seems "good to us and to the Holy Spirit". Here's to inspiration in its highest form.
